Babycakes on The Paper Trail

Welcome to the October edition of The Paper Trail blog hop! This month, we are featuring papers from the Babycakes Paper Packet. While you may have arrived here from Betsy's blog, it is a circular blog so you can start anywhere to enjoy the artwork that each blogger has to offer.

Has the name of a paper collection ever kept you from purchasing it or kept you from using it for other than the theme suggested by the title? It's easy to put a paper aside thinking that it is only meant for that particular theme. Babycakes could be just such a paper collection, but I'm here to change your mind about what can be done with it!

That's right blog fans! This page was done with Babycakes, a collection that you might think is all about infants and all things cute!

First, I cut the overlay from the polka dot patterned paper. The tree is all included so once I popped it onto a piece of chocolate cardstock, it was ready for a few extra pieces to make it come to life. For the leaves, I chose two cardstock colors (Buttercup and Sunset) that are featured in the paper packet and tossed in some New England Ivy to achieve a true autumn feel for the page.

It was simple to add details to the leaves. First, I creased them down the middle and sanded both the edges and the crease. Sponging with chocolate ink added interest to the leaves and a bit of layering finished the look. The large photo mat was also sponged to soften the edges.

Look closely at the "Autumn" title and you will see that it is made up of 2 words cut exactly the same size and layered to create a shadow effect. If you look even closer, you will see just a few Brown and Tan Sparkles sprinkled among the leaves.

When you look at the entire paper collection, you will find that the only print that is particularly juvenile is the giraffe print, so it is easy to use nearly all of the papers for any number of projects. In fact, I used leaves cut from the alphabet print that is the reverse of the polka dots to layer with the leaves in the top right and bottom left corners of the page! Once they were inked and layered, the alphabet became only a bit of texture!

Can you guess where I got those alphabet leaves? That's right! They are just a couple of the bits cut from the tree overlay. Enjoy!

Now hop on over to Connie's blog to see what she has on display this month!
